We are heading towards a potential ban of TikTok in America by the end of the week. Now I know this could still be over turned but if it does go ahead what does this mean for UK businesses?
With TikTok already banned in India and a proposed ban in Albania due to its effect on youth behaviour it is certainly causing controversy across the world. There has also been temporary bans in the past in Pakistan, Indonesia and Bangladesh, the TikTok offices in Canada were ordered to shut down and several nations have government device bans including the UK.
Even if you are not using TikTok for your business it is important to keep up to date with these developments.
While it's unlikely this ban will extend to other platforms, it highlights the risks of relying solely on social media to connect with your audience. Platforms can change, policies can shift, and accounts can be restricted or even removed without warning.
Social media has become one of the most powerful tools in business however it has one downfall. You do not own your audience!
That's why it's so important to build and nurture your mailing list. Your email list is the only audience you truly own and control. It's a direct line of communication with your community—one that can't be taken away by shifting platform policies.
By focusing on your mailing list, you can:
✅ Stay connected with your audience regardless of platform changes
✅ Build stronger, more personal relationships with your customers
✅ Drive traffic and sales on your terms
If you haven’t already, now is the time to prioritise growing your mailing list and diversifying how you connect with your audience.
Have you got a mailing list?
